IMRN now available online via UMass Libraries

At long last, and by popular request, the UMass Libraries are pleased to announce that we now offer online access to the journal International Mathematics Research Notices. Our subscription includes online access to articles published from 1991 to the present, in PDF format.

You can get to the subscription by looking up IMRN in the library catalog and following the link to the online version--or, if you just can't wait, click here (if you're off campus, you'll need to log in with your NetID username & password).

Happy reading....

Which Springer Graduate Text in Mathematics are YOU?

Mathematicians are known for their deep introspection. Here's a chance to find out more about your inner math self:

Which Springer GTM would you be?

The Springer GTM Test

If I were a Springer-Verlag Graduate Text in Mathematics, I would be Frank Warner's Foundations of Differentiable Manifolds and Lie Groups.

I give a clear, detailed, and careful development of the basic facts on manifold theory and Lie Groups. I include differentiable manifolds, tensors and differentiable forms. Lie groups and homogenous spaces, integration on manifolds, and in addition provide a proof of the de Rham theorem via sheaf cohomology theory, and develop the local theory of elliptic operators culminating in a proof of the Hodge theorem. Those interested in any of the diverse areas of mathematics requiring the notion of a differentiable manifold will find me extremely useful.

Happy Pi Day

Today, 3/14, has been declared World Pi Day. More from the Independent.
"The mathematics of pi is often rather pretty," explained Ian Stewart, professor of mathematics at Warwick University.

"All numbers are interesting but some are more interesting than others and pi is the most interesting of the lot," Professor Stewart said.
Here's to pretty mathematics!

Journal of Inequalities in Pure and Applied Mathematics

I just learned about this online, open-access math journal this evening:

Journal of Inequalities in Pure and Applied Mathematics
JIPAM is a peer-reviewed international journal in the theory of mathematical inequalities and their applications. The journal's editorial board is comprised of 71 internationally recognized researchers - many of who are world leaders in the their field. The journal is reviewed by both major reviewing houses, Mathematical Reviews and Zentralblatt MATH, and it is also mirrored on the European Mathematical Information Service (EMIS).

A main aim of JIPAM is rapid dissemination of original results in mathematical inequalities. We guarantee that refereeing will take place in less than 100 working days and papers accepted will be published within two weeks of the author/s' final proofreading.
....
JIPAM is an electronic publication of the School of Computer Science and Mathematics of Victoria University of Technology, Melbourne Australia.
